4 week update on spending ban.

Spending Ban update - Week 4.

Oh goodness, it's only been 4 weeks?! That is quite shocking news, because it has been a lot harder than I thought. And unfortunately, because I've been going out for drinks and meals a lot during the first 2 weeks of university, my spending ban hasn't made that much of a difference to any extra cash I've had. Although I suppose I would have a lot less if I'd been shopping!

So for the last 4 weeks, I've spent the majority of my money on going out to clubs, food shopping, and takeaways. Okay, so that's not great. But, I haven't been clothes shopping for the duration of my spending ban, and my plan is to now put away a little bit of money each week to go towards christmas shopping.

However, I do have some confessions to make. My mum has bought me a couple of clothes items to go away to university with. I know this doesn't technically break the rules of my spending ban, but its violates the morality of buying less clothes!

I'm craving a little bit of a spending splurge right now and I don't know whether to go into Boots and satisfy the urge with beauty items, or to just resist completely and run the risk of a melt down!
What do you guys think? Would you be able to cope with a 10 week spending ban on clothes?

To fringe... Or not to fringe?

Fringe or not fringe?

I am terribly sorry that I have been such a bad blogger recently and not made an appearance in almost a month (!), it is very neglectful of me. However, I have had some major internet and camera issues - basically I don't have either at the moment. I have just moved to university and the internet cannot be fitted in our house with our current provider so we are having to try and find some other way of getting online.
My camera also decided to die on me and my phone is useless at taking photos, blurry doesn't even come close to the images it produces.
So for that, I apologise. I will try to be better in the coming weeks but it is still a little dodgy as to what I will be doing.

Okay, so onto the blog post.
During my second year of university, I had quite dark hair and a full fringe, which I absolutely adored but it took quite a lot of maintaining (including me trimming my own hair, scary or what?!) and I got rid of it for summer because fringe + sweat = ewwwww.

I am, however, considering getting my fringe back. This is where I need your help. I'm going to post a couple of photos of me with a fringe, and me without. I would love some advice from you lovely beauty experts about whether to get it back or leave it as it is.

Fringe...

Or no fringe...

Let me know what you guys think please, it's much appreciated!

Rockstar nails for freshers week.

Rockstar nails.

As you may know from my recent birthday haul post (here), I received some beauty salon vouchers from my best friend and my aunty.
I went to the salon yesterday to use my voucher and get my nails done with a long lasting gel finish ready for freshers week. I was going to just have a bright colour finish but the beautician suggested I get 'Rockstar' nails for the same price. This is basically a colour gel with tons of glitter on the top, it looks fantastic.

I had a coral coloured base with white glitter brushed over the top to give this amazing multi-tonal glitter effect. In theory this should last for 3 weeks without chipping so I will update this post in 3 weeks and let you know how it lasted.

Review - Tesco Proflex hairspray

Review of Tesco Proflex hairspray.

Now I really don't like doing a bad review of a product, but I am also 100% truthful and sometimes, things just don't live to up to what you expect. So here goes...

I tried this hairspray a couple of weeks ago because it was meant to be a dupe for L'Oreal Elnett Hairpspray (£3.79 here), which most people agree is a pretty good hairspray. I like a fair bit of hold in hairspray because I have such fine hair that anything less than maximum hold is just going to let my hair flop.
The Tesco Proflex hairspray's packaging is very similar to the L'Oreal's Elnett and the smell is a dinstinctive hairspray scent, but nothing particularly dislikeable.

However, this is where the positives end I'm afraid. The actual hairspray is sticky, makes my hair stiff yet didn't give it the proper hold that it promised. When I used it, any style that I had, significantly dropped within an hour of going out of the house. Personally, I wouldn't expect this quality form any hairspray, regardless of the price.
I don't know whether it was the specific can that I picked up but whenever I use the spray, excess hairspray comes out of the wrong end of the can! This results in a big mess! You can see this on the picture below, as the hairspray liquid (huh?!) remains on the can.

I apologise for the bad review, and even though the hairspray was only £2.04, I wouldn't repurchase it and would be willing to spend an extra £3 on hairspray just to avoid the sticky, icky mess that this hairspray gave me.

10 week spending ban

10 week spending ban... Eek!

Okay, so this is a scary post for me to write. Lately, I've been spending far too much money on clothes, not expensive clothes, just lots and lots of bargains. My wardrobes and drawers are literally exploding with clothes that I've worn once, or not at all. So I have made a big decision: I will not buy myself any more clothes for 10 weeks. There, I've said it, I can't go back now.

From now on, instead of panic buying a new outfit, I am just going to pair different items of clothes together, use different accessories and most of all feel happy and comfortable with what I've got. I'm an absolute nightmare for those pre-going out breakdowns about what I'm wearing, so I need to step back and realise that it's more about having a good time, not (just) what I'm wearing.

Now... I'm not very good at fashion. This is where you guys come in.
I'm going to need some serious help.
I will be posting (probably quite often!) a few of my key items of clothing or tops/skirts/shorts that I'm not sure how to wear and I will be needing your advice because y'all so good at it!

Wish me luck!

p.s. I have decided to preserve my sanity, and still allow myself to buy beauty items so there will still be beauty hauls and reviews coming up.
